Frequent urination (called pollakiuria) suggests that
non-pregnant people have a disease such as a urinary tract infection or
diabetes, but in pregnant women, this complaint is often considered normal.
Frequent urination is common during pregnancy, especially in the first 3 months
and in the last 3 months, as the uterus presses on the bladder. If there are no
symptoms such as burning, fever, deterioration in general condition and
excessive weakness while urinating, it is considered as a normal condition due
to the pressure of the uterus. If these bad symptoms are present, a pathology
such as urinary tract infection and cystitis is suspected. If there is a
urinary tract infection, urine and sometimes blood tests are done to
investigate it, and antibiotic treatment is given if necessary. If there is no
suspicion of infection, if urination due to frequent urination due to the press
of the uterus is not given, there is no drug treatment for this, there is no
drug treatment to correct this. However, if the mother-to-be is complaining
about urinating too much at night, it is recommended not to drink too much in
the late evening and consume too much tea or coffee. It is not recommended to
restrict fluid intake during the day because it is necessary to drink plenty of
fluids during pregnancy, and reducing fluid intake facilitates the development
of urinary tract infections during pregnancy. While urinating, the urine bag
can be emptied more by leaning forward.
The increase in the amount of fluid and blood in the body
during pregnancy and increased kidney function and urine production also cause
frequent urination. Frequent urination can sometimes be accompanied by
incontinence. Drug or surgical treatment cannot be given for pregnancy incontinence,
but performing kegel exercises may help improve. Since the uterus rises to the
upper abdomen in the 4th, 5th, 6th months of pregnancy, the pressure on the
bladder decreases and these complaints are relieved. In recent months, pressure
increases again and complaints increase.
