EATING CHOCOLATE DURING PREGNANCY

Chocolate has various effects on the human body due to its ingredients such as caffeine and theobromine. These effects have been subject to research from time to time. Some research has also been done on the effects on pregnancy. It has been determined that chocolate consumption has positive effects during pregnancy. In this study on 2291 pregnant women, preeclampsia was observed less in mothers consuming chocolate. In this study, the theobromin level of babies' cord blood was also examined, and it was reported that preeclampsia was observed in pregnancies with high theobromine level. Theobromine is a methylxanthine derivative found in chocolate. It is especially found in dark chocolate.
In addition, some studies have shown that excessive consumption of caffeine in chocolate, coffee and cola may have negative effects on pregnancy, such as miscarriage, premature birth. However, it is OK to consume little or medium. 1-2 cups of coffee or cola-like drinks can be consumed per day.
In summary, although more research is needed to prove the positive effects of the theobrobin substance in chocolate on pregnancy, it is reported that it may be beneficial to consume small amounts of chocolate 2-3 times a week, not to overdo it. Especially dark chocolate is more recommended. Chocolate is a high-calorie food and its excessive consumption can be harmful due to excess weight.
In addition, some studies have found that babies of mothers who consume chocolate during pregnancy are happier and laugh more after birth. Chocolate increases the "happiness hormone" serotonin and has a positive effect on human mood.
