ACNE IN PREGNANCY

What causes acne in pregnancy? Can it be treated while pregnant?
Pregnancy may cause pimples on the skin or an increase in existing pimples due to an increase in hormones and increased oily skin. It can also be seen that rarely a reduction in acne by getting pregnant. Especially increased androgen hormone in pregnant women stimulates sebaceous glands on the skin and causes an increase in sebum, which makes it easier for bacteria to multiply and inflammation, causing acne to form. Acne can be mild, moderate or severe during pregnancy. It may appear and disappear in only one period of pregnancy or continue to go until the end of pregnancy.
What measures can be taken to reduce acne?
- Wash your face twice a day with soap or cleaning products.
- Do not rub your face with products such as towels or fiber, it may cause irritation and increase acne. When washing, just wash it gently with your hand, then dry your face gently with a towel.
- If you are using moisturizer, make sure it is oil-free.
- Do not squeeze, rub, or blast acne. These can lead to increased acne and scarring.
Never use any medications, creams, gels or care products for your pimples without consulting your doctor, such substances can be harmful to your baby during pregnancy. Your obstetrician and dermatologist will provide you with solutions that you can apply during pregnancy. Tablets or creams containing substances such as accutane, roacuttane, isotretinoine, tetracyclic, which are frequently used in acne treatment, are not used during pregnancy.
