CORPUS CALLOSUM AGENESIS (CCA)

The corpus callosum is a structure that connects two halves (two hemispheres) of the brain. The corpus callosum agenesis is that this structure does not develop. Normally 12.-18. It must have completed its development between weeks of gestation. Diagnosis is suspected when ultrasound cannot be monitored in the brain called corpus callosum and the cavum septum pellisidum just below, but diagnosis is not easy especially in cases with partial agenesis.
The corpus callosum agenesis is approximately 80% accompanied by other anomalies. The rate of accompanying chromosomal anomaly is about 20%. Therefore, when diagnosing KKA, other anomalies accompanying with detailed ultrasound and genetic examination are investigated.
If the corpus callosum agenesis is isolated, that is, if there is no accompanying anomaly, the prognosis will be better. Normal isolated mental development can be observed in isolated CCA.
