Studies have shown that induced labor is not harmful or risk
to the mother and baby if it is applied at appropriate births and necessary
follow-ups are made during application. For this reason, oxytocin is widely used
in suitable births today. Some medicines that have been developed and are still
unsure of their safety, harm, and risks have not been approved, and further
research is needed to make them widely available.
Side
effects and risks of oxytocin, the most commonly used method for Induced labor
purposes:
- Tachystole and hyperstimulation
- Fetal distress
- Rapid birth (partus precipitatus)
- Unsuccessful induction
- Hypotension (When given as an intravenous bolus)
- It may have anti-diuretic effect if applied in high doses.
- Hyponatremia (if given with sodium-poor liquids)
- There are studies that say that it increases the level of
bilirubin of baby, in the newborn period.
- If it is applied as inappropriate cervix, it may cause an
increase in cesarean rate especially in the first pregnancies.
