BREATHING TECHNIQUES AT BIRTH

From the onset of pains at normal birth to the birth of the baby, the correct breathing of the mother will provide various benefits for both mother and baby. It will allow the mother to concentrate better on birth and easily cope with birth pains. It will provide more oxygen to the mother and baby. The breathing techniques applied together with the appropriate pushing techniques will ensure that the pain is used effectively, that is, the delivery of the birth easier. Before the birth begins, it is necessary to learn breathing exercises by doing occasional exercises at home. Otherwise, trying for the first time during childbirth may fail. If you are in your city, it is best to apply to a pregnant education class where you can learn these techniques.
The first point to be considered in breathing-giving techniques is to take the breath through the nose and deliver it through the mouth. Breathing should not be too fast, it should be at normal speed. Breathing can take three forms:
1- Chest breathing, 2- Abdominal breathing 3- Chest and belly mixed breathing together
In this way, you can simply learn breathing techniques by trying yourself. You can practice these breathing techniques by standing upright in your seat or lying on your back on the bed.
As you breathe through your nose to breathe through your nose, try to inflate and raise your chest, then slowly exhale through your mouth. At this time, the abdomen should not swell, only the chest should be enlarged. This is a type of breathing that everyone normally applies. Therefore, it is not difficult to do.
Abdominal breathing is often more difficult, but you can easily learn by doing exercises. To try this, sit upright and breathe slowly through your nose, but at this time your stomach should swell, not your chest. Do not lift and widen your chest while breathing, just make your abdomen swell forward. To understand these, you can put one hand on your chest and the other hand on your stomach. Your hand in your chest should not move while breathing, your hand in your stomach should move forward while breathing.
We can divide the breathing processes at birth into two separate parts. The first is the section from the onset of birth pains to the full opening of the cervix (the first stage of birth), the second - from the full opening of the cervix to the exit of the baby (the second stage of birth). In these two stages, breathing techniques are applied differently. You cannot understand for yourself that the second phase begins, that is, the cervix is fully opened, your doctor will tell you. When this phase begins, the breathing technique will change and pushing techniques will also be added. Before the cervix is fully opened, that is, pushing is not performed in the first phase.
Pains will come at certain intervals in the first phase of birth and there will be 3 to 5 or 10 minutes of painless periods between them. During painless periods, you need to rest with normal and slow breathing. As soon as the pain comes, you should make chest breathing or mixed breathing. There is no need to make abdominal breathing in the first stage of birth. As soon as the pain begins, breathe deeply and then breathe in the normal amount until the pain stops. All breaths should be taken from the nose and delivered by mouth. End the technique by breathing deeply once more. Then relax during the rest phase and relax, thinking of good things (for example, your baby's after birth). Repeat these breaths every time it comes to pain. The breaths you apply in this way will not only allow you to easily cope with the pain but also provide the baby with plenty of oxygen.
In the second stage of birth, that is, after the cervix is fully opened (9-10 centimeters), you should start breathing abdominally. As soon as the pain comes, hold your breath by deep breathing as described above, and try to push your baby forward as described for you. You can do so by holding your breath or exhaling very slowly from your mouth. The important thing is that during this time, you should not wait for your abdomen to inflate and try to give the power to the way of birth, not to your neck. You should repeat these strains until the pain disappears. Your doctor will help you in the meantime. Breast breathing is not performed at this stage, abdominal breathing provides much better pushing. When the pain disappears, you can rest with normal breathing.
