AMNIOTIC BAND SYNDROME

The amniotic band is a structure formed like a rope or a curtain formed as a result of the folding of the amniotic membrane filled with amniotic fluid in which the baby is located. It is reported that amnıotıc band syndrome is about 1 in 1200 in pregnancies. This band can sometimes cause various problems for the baby, but mostly the baby is born without any problems.
Many different expressions such as ADAM complex (amniotic deformity, adhesion, mutilation), amniotic band sequence, amniotic distuption complex, congenital amputation, congenital contract band, and transverse terminal defect can be used instead of amniotic band syndrome.
Babies with amniotic band are mostly born without any harm. However, in some pregnancies, blood circulation is disrupted due to the insertion of the arms and legs of the fetus into the amniotic band, and conditions such as edema, shortening or deformity or rupture may occur in the limbs.
Although there is nothing that can be done for treatment, interventions such as cutting the bands in the womb are experimental but not practiced.
