Anemia is accepted if hemoglobin is less than 11 gr / dl in
the 1st and 3rd trimester during pregnancy or if hemoglobin is less than 10.5g
/ dl in the 2nd trimester. It is estimated that approximately 30% of the
world's population, more than 50% of pregnant women in the world, more than 1/3
of all women in the world are anemic. It needs 6-7 mg of iron per day during
pregnancy.
The main
complaints in anemia are:
Weakness and fatigue (the most common symptom)
- Anorexia
- Stress dyspnea (Shortness of effort)
- Headache
- Flutter
- Syncope (fainting)
- Tinnitus
- Sleeping disorder
- Hair loss
- Concentration disorder
- Dizziness
- Angina pectoris (Chest pain)
Main
findings in anemias:
- Paleness of the skin and mucous membranes (most common
finding)
- Tachycardia
- Ejection murmur, hyperkinetic heart failure
- Tongue atrophy (B12, folate and iron deficiency)
- Neuropathy, ataxia (in B12 deficiency)
- Jaundice and splenomegaly (in hemolytic anemias)

- Low birth weight
- Early birth
- IUGR
- Operative birth
- Fetal death
- It may have effects such as prolonged birth risk.
