WORKING IN PREGNANCY

Today, most women are forced to continue working life while pregnant. Working life may be negatively affected due to various changes caused by pregnancy in the body and from time to time due to pregnancy-related symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, frequent urination, fatigue, bloating and cramps. Pregnant women can be severely affected by some odors and food, depending on the workplace. Because of all this, some regulations have been introduced by law about working during pregnancy, and workplaces make various arrangements according to their pregnant employees.
Studies on whether or not women working during pregnancy have an increased risk of pregnancy and childbirth have not yielded a very clear result. But in general, women who do not face any dangerous situation or harmful substances during the day at work can work until the time of birth. The working environment and conditions of the pregnant woman should be carefully evaluated.
The pregnant woman's work should be restricted or stopped altogether if:
- Those with bleeding during pregnancy
- Those with dilatation in the cervix
- Those who have malformation related to the uterus
- Hypertension
- Growth retardation in the fetus
- Those who have given birth earlier
- Polyhydramnios
Chemicals, cleaning agents, solvents, radiation used in some workplaces can harm the pregnant woman either through direct contact or through respiration. These are substances such as lead and mercury. You should investigate the necessary measures to protect yourself in workplaces with such substances and talk to the business owner. Precautions such as working in sections that will not be exposed to these items too much, airing your place occasionally and wearing some special clothes may be required.
Working in an extremely hot workplace or factory can have some negative effects on pregnancy. In this case, it is necessary to avoid excessive heat from time to time by taking measures such as moving to a cool environment, running a fan around and drinking plenty of fluids.
Studies have not found enough evidence that pregnant women working in hairdressers and beauty salons are at risk. However, since there are hundreds of chemicals around such workplaces, precautions should be taken such as using gloves and ventilating inside.
Regardless of the job, the expectant mother should avoid overloading and bending too much. It should be given a short rest interval in a few hours and a long rest interval every 4 hours.
