SLEEP OF THE BABY IN THE WOMB

Just like a newborn baby spends most of the day sleeping until the age of 1, the baby in the womb spends most of the day sleeping. After the 7th month of pregnancy, the baby sleeps 80-90% of the 24 hours. Research shows that babies sleep in the womb and even dream. Rapid eye movements during sleep in infants and adults can also be seen in the womb, with advanced ultrasound devices (Rapid eye movement, REM). During this REM sleep period, speed eye movements occur in the fetus and they can dream. The other period of the suitable, called NON-REM, is a calmer period, it does not dream in this period. During this period, the fetus brain develops and provides the processing of information. Fetus sleep is sometimes noticed in NST (non stress test), nonreactive pattern is observed.
The concept of day-night in infants and adults is absent in the fetus in the womb. In the womb, the fetus experiences sleep periods at intervals of several hours during the day and at night. Some mothers worry that the baby that moves a lot at night will not sleep at night after birth, but this is not true. After the baby is born, the situation will change and will learn the night sleep pattern over time. Their movements may decrease while the baby is sleeping in the womb, so if the movement count is felt low, it should be re-counted after a few hours.
