Nausea-vomiting complaints are found in 50% of pregnant
women, and in 0.5-1% these complaints become very severe and can cause weight
loss. This severe nausea-vomiting condition requiring treatment is called
hyperemesis gravidarum. Nausea and vomiting are more common in twin
pregnancies.
Hyperemesis gravidarum does not harm the baby, it does not
cause growth retardation and low birth weight in the baby. Hyperemesis
gravidarum does not cause hypertension, miscarriage or premature birth in
expectant mothers.
Risk
factors for nausea-vomiting during pregnancy:
- Multiple (twin, triplet) pregnancy
- Those with nausea and vomiting during previous pregnancy
- Those who suffer from nausea and vomiting while using the
contraceptive pill are also more likely to have similar complaints when they
become pregnant.
- Nausea in car travel or moving actions
- Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy of the mother or
sister
- Those with migraines
What should
be done in treatment?
- Try to eat light and dry foods.
- A minimum of 6 meals should be eaten frequently and
frequently instead of 3 meals a day.
- Fluid intake should be increased. Drinking water should be
started 1 hour after meals.
- You should rest and try to avoid stress as much as possible.
- The order at home should change to reduce nausea.
- If bed rest is required, intravenous feeding should be
started in the hospital.
- It is useful to eat salty pretzels, biscuits or roasted
chickpeas after waking up for morning sickness.
- Boiled potatoes, bread, eggs, cheese, yogurt, rice pilaf,
pasta, can be eaten.
- Blush, oily etc. food should be avoided.
- Nausea medications that your doctor deems appropriate can
be used.
