Nasal congestion increases as a result of swelling of the
tissues and vessels in the nose during pregnancy. This is due to a hormonal
change in pregnancy. An increase in the glands occurs. The expectant mother may
have trouble breathing, and may be uncomfortable while sleeping at night. Of
course, nasal congestion in a pregnant woman may not always be due to the
effects of pregnancy. A septum deviation (curvature in the nasal bone) found
before pregnancy or a polyp-like structure can cause complaints with the
addition of swelling during pregnancy.
Moisturizing the air of the living room and bedroom reduces
dry nose. Not smoking, avoiding dirty air are other measures to be taken.
In case of complaints such as nasal obstruction during
pregnancy and difficulty in breathing, the expectant mother should consult a
nose specialist. Treatment with sprays and other medicines that will not pose a
risk to the baby, and surgical intervention if necessary.
