The question of whether consumption of coffee during
pregnancy harms the baby is a frequently asked question by expectant mothers.
Caffeine is the most important reason for doubt about coffee consumption during
pregnancy. Studies have shown that taking caffeine up to 200 mg per day during
pregnancy is not harmful. The caffeine limit that can be taken daily in
non-pregnant people is 300 mg. In the list below, the amounts of caffeine
contained in various beverages are given. Accordingly, there is no harm in
drinking coffee provided that it is not more than 2-3 cups a day while
pregnant. Since the caffeine contains about half of the coffee, 5-7 cups of tea
can be drunk daily. The amount of caffeine increases in the processing phase of
black tea. Black tea's caffeine content is higher than green tea's caffeine
content. It is necessary to avoid excessive consumption of all kinds of food
and drink during pregnancy. There are studies reporting that excessive
consumption of caffeine can cause miscarriage during pregnancy.
