PAIN MEDICATIONS DURING PREGNANCY

Unless it is mandatory during pregnancy, it is not recommended to use any drugs other than vitamins and similar drugs required for pregnancy. However, it may be necessary to use pain medications during pregnancy due to headache, migraine, toothache, low back pain, hernia, trauma, surgery. First of all, it should be noted that pain medications are not "simple" drugs and they contain substances that, like other medicines, may have various effects on the mother and baby organs. It is necessary to avoid the use of painkillers and antipyretics (aspirin, paracetamol, etc.), especially in the first 3 months of pregnancy. If it is very necessary, it is absolutely necessary to use appropriate medicines under the supervision of a doctor. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain medications used in the last months of pregnancy (after the 34th week) can cause side effects such as a decrease in the baby's water and closure of the vein called ductus arteriosus.
The most harmless painkillers in pregnancy are paracetamol or acetominofen-derived drugs. However, they should not be used outside the doctor's supervision. Aspirin is a drug that is used at low doses already in pregnancy in some cases (such as recurrent abortions) 80 mg per day, but high doses can be harmful. Aspirin should never be used outside of a doctor's supervision. In addition, aspirin may cause excessive bleeding at birth due to its disruption of platelet aggregation, since it creates a tendency to bleed.
Plants that are said to have a pain relieving effect:
Pregnant women are not recommended to use herbal teas, foods that are said to have painkillers or other effects. Because the substances contained in such plants may have bad effects on pregnancy.
Local anesthetic drugs:
It should be used frequently for pregnant women, especially in cases such as dental treatment. Local anesthetic agents such as lidocaine, prilocaine, edidocaine are known to be safe for pregnant women. They can be applied for the treatment of dental diseases or for local anesthesia in other parts of the body.
Migraine medications:
There are some special medicines used in the treatment of migraine, apart from classic painkillers. These are drugs that are generally not very safe to use during pregnancy, but appropriate treatment will be planned by the neurologist considering the profit-loss ratio. For this reason, when migraine patients think of pregnancy, they need to meet their neurologist doctors and arrange their medications and treatments in accordance with pregnancy.
