1 MONTH PREGNANCY

In the first month of pregnancy, spouses usually consult a doctor with suspicion of pregnancy. Since they are not sure that they have a pregnancy, they are excited and curious. Therefore, in the examination performed in this first month, firstly, whether pregnancy is precise or not is determined by ultrasound and, if necessary, pregnancy tests. If there is pregnancy, the most important issue is whether there is a heart beat. However, heartbeat does not occur in very small pregnancies, it can be seen around 5-6 weeks (10-15 days after menstruation). In this first month, although the gestational sac is sometimes seen and developed, no baby is formed, and this condition is frequently encountered and this is called empty pregnancy. This month, the family may be curious about the condition and health of the baby, but since pregnancy is very small, not many features of the baby can be evaluated in this period other than being alive and there is no disability or understood in this period.
Other procedures performed in the first pregnancy examination:
- Risks related to pregnancy are determined
- Estimated birth date is calculated
- General physical examination is done
- If the mother has any health problems other than pregnancy, the effects of this on pregnancy are evaluated.
Laboratory tests are performed: Complete blood test, urinalysis, blood group, Rh antibody screening (for blood incompatibility), thyroid tests (TSH), rubella, toxoplasma, Hbs ag test (Hepatitis B), HIV (AIDS) test are recommended.

The gestation period calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period is 280 days or 40 weeks. The estimated date of birth can be calculated by adding 7 days to the last menstrual date and going back 3 months. One of the most important examinations in prenatal examination is determining gestational age, that is, determining exactly how many weeks of pregnancy. Sometimes spouses do not know the last menstrual date, in this case, the gestational age is determined by using ultrasound measurements.
Pregnancy is detected primarily in the blood, then in the urine, and ultimately on ultrasound. However, after the gestational sac is clearly seen on ultrasound, an intrauterine pregnancy can be mentioned. It can not be seen on ultrasound in very early pregnancies (in the first days of menstruation), even though pregnancy occurs in tests.
In the first weeks of pregnancy, there is little taste change in the mouth and mild morning sickness. Very little bleeding, called implantation bleeding, can be observed during this period. In addition, symptoms such as weakness, hypersensitivity, frequent urination may be felt.
During this first examination, the mother is informed about:
Drug use and drugs that can harm pregnancy
- Cigarette and alcohol harm to baby
- X-ray situations that should be avoided
- Nutrition during pregnancy
- Vitamins to take: All requirements except iron can be met by a balanced diet. Also, routine folic acid supplementation (0.4 mg) should be given to prevent neural tube defect in the first months of pregnancy.

- Exercise
- and are informed about problems that may occur during pregnancy.
