Ectopic pregnancies are most common in tuba, but the most
common site outside of tuba is ovaries. The placement of the ovary is called an
ovarian pregnancy. Ovarian pregnancies are not associated with tube damage,
unlike tubal ectopic pregnancies. Those who use intrauterine device (IUD) have
an increased risk.
It is seen as less than 1 in 1000 in all pregnancies, making
up approximately 1-3% of all ectopic pregnancies. It can rarely survive until
birth and result in live birth.
Spiegelberg
criteria are used for diagnosis:
- Finding gestational pouch in ovarian localization
- The pouch must be attached to the uterus by the ovarian
ligamen
- Ovarian tissue should be shown histologically on the
gestational sac wall
Very rarely cases of bilateral ovarian pregnancy have been
reported.
Treatment:
Methotrexate treatment or ovarian wedge resection,
oophorectomy can be applied.
