WHAT IS QUADRUPLE BLOOD SCREENİNG TEST?

Quadruple blood screening test is a test performed for the same purpose as triple test in pregnancy, but has a higher success than triple test. In quadruple blood screening test, the rate of detecting baby with down syndrome is 80%. In addition to the B-hCG and free estriol (uE3) and AFP levels evaluated in the blood taken from the mother in the triple test, the addition of Inhibin-A level to the formula increases the success of the test. Since these four items are measured in maternal blood, its name is a quad test, just as in a double and triple test. Quadruple blood screening test evaluation is performed, which takes a small amount of blood from the mother just as in normal blood tests.
Trisomy 21 and 18 are diseases with mental retardation, heart anomalies and other organ anomalies. That is why these tests are called intelligence tests, Quadruple blood screening test is not a test that measures the baby's intelligence level.
Quadruple blood screening test is the best test that can be recommended later for those who do not have screening tests, Nuchal translucency scan test, combined test and NT measurements in the first trimester between 11-14 weeks.
Risk assessment according to the quadruple blood screening test result:
As with the quadruple blood screening test, a triple test is performed for risk investigation of Down sednrome (trisomy 21), Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) and neural tube defect anomalies. The success of detecting the only difference here is higher. Just like the Nuchal translucency scan test and triple test, the Quadruple blood screening test does not show the exact presence of the disease in the baby, it only indicates that the risk of having these chromosomal anomalies in the baby is higher than normal. However, despite this high risk, it is possible that the baby is completely normal. For this reason, methods such as CVS and amniocentesis are applied for definitive diagnosis.
Amniocentesis is recommended directly for pregnant women over 35 years of age, without the need for a "usually" Quadruple blood screening test.
