-PREPARATION FOR PREGNANCY
What to do
if pregnancy is planned:
When you consult a doctor at the planning stage before
pregnancy occurs, various analyzes are made to the mother and the risks that
may arise in terms of pregnancy are tried to be prevented according to their
results. For example, if there is anemia in the mother, it is corrected before pregnancy.
It is investigated whether he has rubella and similar infectious diseases. If
the mother has not had rubella, she needs to be very careful not to get it
during pregnancy because getting rubella infection during pregnancy can cause
problems. If the expectant mother is overweight, it is recommended to lose
weight before pregnancy. If there is diabetes in the expectant mother, blood
sugar should be arranged before pregnancy. Mothers are informed about drug,
cigarette and alcohol use. All women planning pregnancy are started with the
recommended prophylactic dose of folic acid vitamin for NTD (neural tube
defect) prophylaxis. Carriage is investigated for diseases such as
hemoglinopathies and cystic fibrosis in risky areas.
Then, depending on the condition of your pregnancy, your
doctor will examine and evaluate you almost once a month. In every examination,
the mother's blood pressure and weight are measured. (Weight gain during
pregnancy) There are tests done in some months, these are done. Whether the
baby's weight is normal according to the month is evaluated by ultrasound. The
presence of anomaly in the baby is investigated, for this reason, the patient
is directed to detailed ultrasonography especially after the 5th month. In the
examinations performed close to birth, the birth tract and bone structure of
the mother are compared according to the posture and weight of the baby by
performing a vaginal examination and an approximate estimate is made about the
possibility of normal birth. Nevertheless, it cannot be guaranteed and known
that normal delivery will occur precisely until the moment of birth. In some
cases, normal delivery is not expected to start because the baby is upside down
or for other reasons, and the day of cesarean delivery is determined before the
birth begins and the delivery is carried out by cesarean.
Routine multivitamin support is not recommended to every
pregnant unless the mother's diet is inadequate. Multivitamin pills are given
to those with nutritional problems or vegetarians.
HBsAg is done to determine if the expectant mother has had
hepatitis. If the expectant mother is HBsAg (+), hyperimmunoglobulin and
vaccine should be given to the baby immediately after birth to prevent the risk
of passing on to the baby during delivery, and the vaccine should be repeated
in the 2nd and 6th months after birth. With the recommendation of the Ministry
of Health, all newborns are vaccinated with hepatitis B. Pregnant women with
HBsAg (-) are advised to get hepatitis B vaccine as a protective against the
disease.
