PREGNANCY AND BRUSELLA INFECTION

This disease is caused by a bacteria called brucella. Brucella microbe causes low, infertility and breast diseases in human, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. The microbe infects the environment with the feces of sick animals, milk and waste baby membranes, causing disease in humans. The incubation period is 6-20 days.
Symptoms:
Brucella bacteria settle in the liver, lymph nodes, glands, spleen and nerves. But it has rarely taken several months. It has symptoms similar to other febrile illnesses. But especially muscle pain and sweating are much more intense. Sometimes it causes fever that comes in the form of tremors, not too high. There is weakness, loss of appetite and, consequently, weight loss. The duration of the disease varies from a few weeks to several months. The pathological changes (sequelae) seen after the disease vary greatly, and conditions such as granulomatous, hepatitis, arthritis, spondylitis, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, meningitis, uveitis, optic neuritis and endocarditis can be seen.
Diagnosis:
When the disease is in a febrile period, bacteria can be produced by direct cultivation from the blood. But if the infection has become chronic, serological methods are used. For this purpose, 98% reliability can be diagnosed with the Rose Bengal Test (RBPT). If quantitative serological values are desired for diagnosis, that is, if you want to determine the degree of infection at the titer level, the Serum Agglutination Test (SAT), Complement Fixation Test (KFT) or Coomb's test can be used.
Treatment:
Various antibiotics are used in treatment. Multiple antibiotics should be used in combination for several weeks.
Effects on the fetus:
Brucella can cause premature birth due to low or high fever during pregnancy. Apart from this, it has not been shown that the baby has an anomaly or disability. It is treated with appropriate antibiotics that will not harm the fetus during pregnancy.
