POSTPARTUM PERIOD

The first 6 weeks (about 40 days) after birth is the postpartum period. You should definitely apply for stitch control and other controls 1 week after normal birth and cesarean. The baby is also called for a check-up, usually 5-7 days after birth.
What changes occur in the mother's body during the postpartum period?
- Red, yellow and white discharge occurs. The first three days are red, 4-5 days yellow-pink, 7-8 days white. Due to the discharge, underwear and pads may get dirty frequently, following the toilet need by changing frequently, cleaning should be done with an antiseptic solution from front to back.

What kind of complaints can occur in the mother in postpartum?
- Cracks in the nipple are one of the most common complaints.
- Rarely, after birth, excessive bleeding and prolonged bleeding may occur at home, in this case, consult your doctor immediately.
- Urinary tract infections are common after birth. When urinating, pain and burning occur.
- Infection in the uterus called endometritis rarely occurs. In this case, there are symptoms such as bad smelling discharge, weakness, fever. It is treated with antibiotics.
- Although not common, a condition that can be seen after childbirth is depression in the mother. During temporary depression, the mother often cries, but can not explain the reason for crying. It occurs due to hormonal changes after birth and often resolves spontaneously. During this period, the environment should support the mother and give confidence. With the education to be given during pregnancy, the psychological problems of the expectant mother that may arise after birth can be prevented.
- At normal delivery, there may be pain at the seam, it will pass within 1-2 weeks at the latest. The seam should be cleaned from the front to the back of the toilet with an antiseptic solution for 1-2 weeks.
- Pain and numbness may occur at the cesarean seam. The pain will decrease in 7-10 days. Drowsiness and numbness at the seam will improve in a longer time.
Sexual intercourse after birth?
Sexual intercourse is allowed 6 weeks after normal birth or cesarean, if a problem is not detected under the control of the doctor.
When to take a bath (shower) after birth?
You can take a bath or shower even on the day after normal birth.
The first 3 days after cesarean are generally not recommended. After 3 days, bathing can be done without irritating the seam, water or soap contact to the seam is no longer inconvenient.
