VACCINATIONS IN PREGNANCY

Vaccination is an important factor in reducing the preventable morbidity and mortality of the mother, fetus and newborn. The vaccination protects the mother and hence the health of the fetus, while the passive antibodies passed through protect the newborn from infections in the first six months.
No risk was observed during vaccination using inactive virus or bacteria and toxoid during pregnancy. It is okay to vaccinate during breastfeeding. Vaccination usually begins in the 2nd trimester.
The purpose of vaccination can be listed as: protecting the fetus from infections that cause congenital malformation, growth retardation, stillbirth and neurological symptoms during pregnancy, reducing preterm labor, protecting the mother from more severe diseases during pregnancy (influenza, hepatitis B, etc.), and reducing neonatal infections.
Live vaccinations such as rubella and chickenpox are not given during pregnancy, they are harmful. These vaccines should be completed before pregnancy, if necessary.
